Get to know your Garden!
The Seasonal Herbal Apprenticeship is a program I offer where the student performs garden and yard work in exchange for one of the two Herbal courses that are offered in a particular year. Each course has a set number of hours the student must work to earn their Herbal Classes. It is a great opportunity for those who have little to no area to garden, who are not able to be in the outdoors to connect with nature or those who are short of funds.
Each perspective Herbal Apprentice should be able bodied, able to carry plant pots or flats of plants , able to use rakes, shovels, wheel barrows and other garden tools. Be prepared to get your hands dirty. We have many areas around the property that will need weeded, trimmed and mulched. There will be planting beds to be opened and repaired in the spring and closed in the fall. There are always new garden and planting projects that you will get to participate. We will have afternoons where we sit cleaning plants and talking about all the roots we just harvested and what to do with them. You will get to take home excess plants that come up from seed around the residence and more.
Herbal Apprenticeship positions are limited, so if you are interested in a position, contact Lorie Middendorf at theseasonalherbal@gmail.com or by phone at 717-516-5722 to discuss the terms of being an Herbal Apprentice. After which each perspective Herbal Apprentice will pay the $200.00 non-refundable deposit and fill out either the online application or download, print, and send in the paper application to hold your seat for your preferred course.
The Herbalist Apprentice for the Seasonal Herbal’s Herbalism by the Season Course is 30 hours of garden, yard or other herbal activities that begin in the early Spring and continues through the Summer to the late Fall.
Herbal Apprentices will get a list of scheduled work parties and there will be a few impromptu work party days. We are often at the mercy of the weather, so your flexibility is appreciated. You may also schedule your work hours as your schedule permits.
It is the responsibility of the Herbal Apprentice to have all of their work hours finished before their Graduation. If the Herbal Apprentice has not finished their working hours a simple payment for the remaining hours can be made.
This is a great opportunity for the right person or persons to start their herbal education.
